Annie DeWitt “Dee” Kauffman, formerly of Lynchburg and Lovingston, passed peacefully on September 28, 2026 at the age of 96.
Born July 15, 1930, to William T. and Dorothy S. Harvey, she lived a long and meaningful life marked by faith and an abiding love for those around her.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, William W. Kauffman, and much-loved daughter, Donna Kay Watson. Dee was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Margaret, Lynn, Carlton, Doug, Richard, Dorothy, and Clyde, the last of that generation.
Numerous nieces and nephews survive her.
Dee possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a smile that could brighten any room, immediately endearing her to all she met. She loved being outdoors mowing her lawn, gardening, and birdwatching. Her home always contained a jigsaw puzzle in progress; the more challenging, the more she liked it. Later in life, she became a word-search puzzle enthusiast and kept a puzzle book close at hand. She loved the color purple and, in her last years, refused to wear another color. Born with a sweet tooth, she loved pecan pie and chocolate chip cookies.
Reverend John Campbell will conduct a graveside service at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on October 14, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 62, Lovingston, Virginia 22949.
Arrangements by Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston (434-263-4097).
