B. Marie Taylor Sowers

B. Marie Sowers, 91, a lifelong resident of Martinsburg, was called home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 11, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Born November 6, 1932, in Martinsburg, and was the daughter of the late Charles Harvey and Pearl Elizabeth Taylor.

She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters of America, serving on the Ways and Means committee spearheading their famous apple pie making using her recipe. She loved making pies for family and friends. If you shoveled her sidewalk or driveway, you got a pie. She also served as Grand Regent and Vice Regent. She was given the Woman of the Year award in 1993. She chaired the funeral luncheons committee for several years. Just recently she was given her 65 years of service pin. She loved being in the Catholic Daughters serving on various committees and being a member of St. Jospeh Catholic Church.

Marie is survived by her husband of 73 years, Paul F. Sowers; son, P. Frank Sowers (Carrie); daughters, Linda Brown (Marvin), Mary Ann Jacobs (Harry), Connie Frick, Debbie Boor (Dwayne) of Shipman, VA; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, special niece Joann Sowers, who helped care for her, and many other cherished nieces and nephews; special in-laws, Marie Osbourn, Anna Albright, Rosie Houser, Jean Kisner, Nora Porterfield, Patricia Bowling, Tom and Becky Sowers; and two special friends, Wanda Brady, and Debbie Laing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Hubert, Russell, Charles, Douglas, Robert, and John Taylor; three sisters, Mary Feeney, Edith Taylor, and Naomi Perry. She was the last of her immediate family.

She worked at Patterson’s Drug Store for several years and later the ABC Store and retired from the WV State Road.

Family will receive friends Friday, February 16, 2024, from 6PM to 8PM at the Brown Funeral Home. A Rosary will be said starting at 7:30.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 1PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Thomas Gallagher officiating.

Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

B. Marie Sowers is the Maternal Grandmother of Travis Boor of Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel.
