Barbara Ann Barber

Barbara Ann Barber (85) of Brooklyn, New York, departed this life on November 9, 2023, at Brooklyn Hospital.

 She was born on January 11, 1938 in Nelson County, Virginia. Barbara was the eldest daughter of the late Abraham Gray Sr. and Rachel Baker Gray. Besides her parents, several aunts and uncles, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Leonard Barber, her sister, Rachel Gray, nephew, Frederick Gray, and great nephew, Ray Mosby, Jr.

Barbara joined Bright Hope Baptist Church (Lovingston) at a very early age, and later attended and served at Brooklyn Tabernacle Deliverance Center. Her favorite greeting was “Praise the Lord!” She was employed by New York Social Service Department where she worked diligently for 12 years until she retired due to a disability.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Virginia Foster and Helen Gray (Bo), both of Shipman, Virginia; two brothers, Abraham Gray Jr.(Rosie) and Lloyd Gray (Joyce), both of Shipman;  her aunt, Inez Turner of Charlottesville, Virginia; her daughter, Sandra J. Barber of Brooklyn, New York; four sons, Leonard Barber (Lorraine) of Philadelphia ,Pennsylvania, David Barber, Jeffrey Barber and Jerome Barber (Marlene Pouncy)of Brooklyn, New York;  seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara will be sadly missed by her loved ones. However, it was in the will of God that she be taken from us. He who has all power in his hands took control. We too must walk this path one day. And although we know not when, we must prepare our soul to live with God, who has no end.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston with Reverend Samuel Woodson and Reverend James Rose officiating.

Interment will follow in Bright Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Lovingston.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
