Clayton Franklin Harvey

Clayton Franklin Harvey (Franklin), 86, of Lovingston, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025.

He was born on September 29, 1938 to the late John Clayton and Nora Williams Harvey.

In addition to his parents, Franklin was preceded in death by a son, Clayton F. Harvey, Jr., a daughter Beverley Harvey Wood, two brothers Thornton Wayne “Nubby” Harvey, Richard William Harvey, and a sister-in-law, April Harvey.

A hard working man, Franklin was a well known auto mechanic at Nelson Motors and various other garages. He was a dedicated employee of English Construction for 8 years. After leaving English Construction, Franklin began logging, and eventually started his own company, Harvey Logging Company, Inc., where he continued to work with his two sons. Prior to owning his own logging company, Franklin also enjoyed working on the farm with his brothers, and logging with his brothers-in-law.

To say that Franklin Harvey was well known throughout his community, is an understatement. His infectious personality touched the lives of so many people everywhere he went. He had the ability to bring joy and laughter to everyone he met, and he knew no enemies or strangers. Franklin had a knack for making people laugh with his witty remarks and funny stories. And he always had a story. Many of his friends knew him as “Snake”. He always said, “If you don’t have your friends, you don’t have anything.”

Spending time with family was most important to Franklin. He was especially fond of watching his grandchildren play sports, and he was always up for a trip to get ice cream with the “grandbabies.” The three “grandboys”, granddaughter and great grandson were the loves of his life.

Franklin is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Virginia (Jenny) Viar Harvey; his sons James Harvey (Ronda) and Carroll (Bubba) Harvey (Adrienne); daughters Elizabeth (Fuzzy) Harvey, Cathy Fitzgerald, and Connie Harvey; grandchildren Colton Harvey, Chaz Harvey, Jazmyn Harvey Duval (Ethan), Nathan Harvey; great grandchild Cooper Duval. Franklin is also survived by a brother, D. Nelson Harvey.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date, yet to be determined.

Arrangements by Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston, VA (434-263-4097).
