Doris Mae Truslow Drumheller, 85, of Drumheller Orchard Lane, Lovingston passed away suddenly at her home on Friday, September 5, 2025.
Born October 17, 1939, in Nelson County, she was the only daughter of the late Maury J. and Louise Thompson Truslow of Nellysford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell whom she was married to for 67 years and never once took off her wedding ring; grandson, Brandon W. Drumheller; son in law, Mark C. Harris, and her brother, James (Jimmy) D. Truslow.
Doris was the full-time Office Manager/Bookkeeper for Drumheller's Orchard and farm in Lovingston for more than 55 years. She ran the farm full-time and worked just shy of 30 years selling insurance at Virginia Farm Bureau while caring for and raising four children.
Doris was a truly remarkable lady. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston with her passion being teaching children & the meaning of “Jesus Loves Me.” Doris loved all children and they loved her.
She began teaching her own children in Sunday school when they were 4-5 years old. Her love of teaching never diminished, continuing on through many years and concluded with AWANA. Her Wednesday nights were dedicated to AWANA. Her family knew exactly those plans each week. She served faithfully on the flower committee and many additional church committees. WMU (BWC), Women’s Missionary Union being one she treasured dearly.
Outside of church, she also served on the Virginia Horticultural Ladies’ Auxiliary and Women’s Committee at Virginia Farm Bureau. Doris was often described by many as strong, loving, caring, giving, kind hearted, generous, compassionate, strong willed, tenacious, and resilient. She will greatly be missed for expressing all of these
attributes. She was the prime example of each and every one of these. There are very few that did not receive a visit, card, phone call, text, or plate of food from Doris. She traveled near and far to visit friends in assisted living facilities and nursing homes. She was always there with a helping hand and kind heart awaiting whenever needed. When in season, you could always count on a delivery of fruit and/or goodies from the farm, including peach ice cream. If you were lucky enough she would share her delicious apple cake with you.
Doris spent countless hours in her kitchen making and baking apple cakes. She worked tirelessly preparing for the fall festivals each year baking these wonderful cakes. She enjoyed seeing the happiness she
created for others with her labor of love. She passes that passion on to all of her children and grandchildren.
Doris was an avid UVA fan. She loved her Hoos. From football to basketball she cheered them on no matter the outcome of the game. Basketball became her favorite sport of them all when Tony Bennett took over coaching. You knew when the games got tight because the M&Ms came out. Without anyone in security knowing she would always hide her bag of M&Ms in her gloves in her clear bag. Go Hoos!
Doris is survived by her four children, Gerald and wife Karen, Gary and wife Karen, Danita, and Kevin and wife Joanne.
Doris was blessed with five grandchildren, Amber and husband Juette, Morgan and husband Dustin, Whitney and husband Brandon, Colton and wife Nicole, and Jordan and wife Dianna; eight beautiful great granddaughters, Destiny, Avery, Emery, Macey, Colby, Harper,Brooklyn, and Sawyer.
She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Jean Truslow (TJ), Bernice, Nancy, and Barbara Drumheller. Doris loved and enjoyed her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 6:00p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 8404 Thomas Nelson Highway, Lovingston.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Tyler Lucas and Pastor John P. Campbell officiating.
