Listen to Obituary

Edward Napolean Cash of Amherst, Virginia, age 84, passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 10, 2026 at the home of his daughter.

He was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, papa, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness, wit, and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Born on June 7, 1942, in Amherst, he lived a life centered on love, family, gardening, music, and his dog, Daisy. His ability to find joy in everyday moments and bring laughter to those around him will be remembered by all who have the privilege of knowing him. He was known by many for growing beautiful gardens. He would grow his gardens and give anyone passing his door fresh vegetables.

He had a great passion for music. Through his music, he shared comfort, joy, and countless memories that will forever echo in the hearts of those who listened. He loved playing the guitar and harp. It was never about performing, but about being who he truly was, a man who loved those near him and wanted to make them smile. His legacy is one of compassion, laughter, generosity, and a life lived with an open heart.

He was the son of the late Ernest and Helen (Lucille) Cash and was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Connie Cash; his grandchildren, J.D. Clark and Abraham Ramsey; his great-grandchild, Elijah Taylor; two brothers, Eugene and James Cash; and two sisters, Ditty-Marie Johns and Helen Bowling.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Barbara White (Punky); a son, Randy Cash (Pam); step-daughter, Ann Staton (John), and step-son, Russell Ramsey, Jr. (Dottie); his grandchildren, Heather Clark (Tim), Misty White (Tre), Jessica Taylor (Shane), Ryan Cash (Jamie), Mikey Cash (Angeleena), Jennifer Staton (Reed), Kevin Cook (Kendra), and Cassondra Mercer (Anothny); fifteen great-grandchildren; his sister, Barbara Vaughan (Mike), and a special niece, Joan Campbell (Ernie).

A special thank you to the Centra Hospice care team for the love and support they provided during Edward’s time of need.

A very special thank you to Careadvantage caretakers, James Edwards and Sharon Burks for the amazing companions and friends of Edward over the last five months.
