Listen to Obituary

Florence Maxine Pugh Carter was called home to the Lord on Monday November. 2, 2026.

Florence was born on October 30, 1933 to Luchian Pugh and Eva Mawyer Pugh. In 1954 Florence married James W. Carter Sr. Together they were blessed with one son, James W. Carter Jr. whom they called Jimmy. Florence and James celebrated 53 wedding anniversaries together before he passed.

Jimmy married Diane McDaniel Carter creating a wonderful life together.

Florence was delighted to have her one and only granddaughter Rebecca Sue Carter Fitzgerald. They share many fond memories together and spent time together on a weekly basis.

After Rebecca married Scott Fitzgerald, Florence, also known as, Ma Carter loved and adored her 2 great grandsons, Cooper Hayes and Brett Lee Fitzgerald.

Everyone enjoyed time with Ma Carter, including a sweet girl, Sophie Bissonette and Mariah Rodes who were her honorary granddaughters. Ma Carter kept ice cream in the freezer and looked forward to weekly visits to share a scoop or two.

When the weather was warm, you could spot Ma Carter sitting on the front porch and waving to everyone who drove by.

She enjoyed reading her Bible every day! She loved her scripture and was a

Woman of God. She enjoyed going to church when she was able and when she was not, she would watch it on TV. When it was time for VBS or any social event at church, you would find her helping in the kitchen. Cooking and baking is what she enjoyed. She was known for her Coconut cakes!

In her spare time, she liked to visit with family, talk to her friends on the telephone, work puzzles, complete word searches, crochet, and color. What she enjoyed most was seeing and watching her great grandsons play and grow up. Everyone loved and will miss Ma Carter!

Florence was preceded in death by her husband James Carter Sr., brother Marvin Pugh, sisters Lucille Pugh, Merle Rae, and Mary Jane Thompson.

A graveside service will be held at Rodes United Methodist Church Cemetery, Friday, November 6, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Services will be conducted by Pastor Adam Meredith and Pastor Rob Mansfield.

For Florence or Ma Carter, this is not the end or goodbye. We will see her once again and will rejoice in heaven.
