Garland Keith Mayo

Garland Keith Mayo, our beloved patriarch, passed away on May 15, 2025. Born on September 25, 1958, in Washington, D.C., Keith was the son of Jerome Mayo and Merniece Mayo.

In 1977, Keith met the love of his life, Nellie Rebecca Rose. They were married in 1980 and shared a devoted and loving union for 44 years. Together, they raised six wonderful children — four daughters and two sons — creating a legacy grounded in love, strength, and family.

Keith dedicated over 35 years of his life to environmental services within the healthcare system. He took great pride in his work and found even greater joy in the simple pleasures of life: sharing stories from the past, traveling with his loved ones, and enjoying dinner dates with his wife.

A proud Washington Commanders fan, Keith never missed a chance to cheer on his team. He also had a great sense of humor and a deep love for classic television. A creative spirit, he found joy in drawing and relaxation in video games during his quiet moments. He was also known for his renowned homemade chicken salad, and he loved nothing more than gathering with family and friends at cookouts — sharing food, laughter, and memories under the sun.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerome Mayo; his mother, Merniece Mayo; and his brother, Jerome Quinn Mayo. Keith is survived by his loving wife, Nellie; devoted sons Sean (Ashley) and Patrick; cherished daughters Tina, Shawnta, Latoya, and Janet; treasured grandchildren: Malik, Rezaiah, Nevaeh, Quincy, Layla, Ariah, and Shane; special sister, Renita Rose; sister-in-law, Darlene; and a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service in his honor will be held on May 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hebron Baptist Church, located at 5092 James River Rd, Wingina, VA 24599. Interment will follow at the Peaceful Gardens Memorial Cemetery in Wingina.
