HAROLD SHELDON SPOTSWOOD

Harold Sheldon Spotswood, 84, of Lovingston passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Harold was born in Albemarle County on March 14, 1942. He was the son of the late Harold William Spotswood and Avis Ladd Spotswood. Harold also was preceded in death by a son, Harold Wade Spotswood and a granddaughter, Evynn Elizabeth Spotswood.

Harold really enjoyed listening to gospel music and was a dedicated member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church for over 60 years.

Harold had many interesting hobbies that included fishing, antiquing, furniture repair, building doll houses and fixing up old trucks. He truly loved working with his hands and fixing things around the house.

Harold was a truck driver for over 45 years, most of this time was spent with the Tiger Fuel Company of Lovingston. His favorite part of the job was being able to fellowship with so many wonderful people around the county. Those friendships brought him great comfort in his final days.

Harold’s greatest love was his family and his beloved dog, Ryder. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; his brother, Charles Spotswood of Charlottesville, VA; his sister, Dorothy Williams of Rural Retreat, VA; his son, Shannon (Laurie) Spotswood of Floyd, VA, and his daughter, Monica (Scott) Lee of Afton, VA. In addition, Harold has six surviving grandchildren; William (Sarah) Spotswood, Abby (Lindsey) McClain, Ashlynn Spotswood, Brianna Harlow (Camden Stratton), Devin (Brianne) Mobley, and Darian Lee. Harold has three surviving great-grandchildren; Wade Hampton Spotswood, Ruthie Mae Spotswood, and Isla Jean Spotswood. Harold is also survived by many other wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on August 29, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church, 8408 Thomas Nelson Highway, Lovingston, Virginia 22949 with Rev. John Campbell and Rev. Tyler Lucas officiating.

The family will be receiving family and friends before the service from 1 pm until 2 pm. The family would also like to invite everyone to join them afterwards in the church fellowship hall for food and refreshments.

The family would like to specially thank all the Doctors and Nurses in the Neurological ICU at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
