James Underwood Goolsby

James Underwood Goolsby of Madison Heights, Virginia passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at the age of 86.

He was born August 29, 1939 in Nelson County. James was preceded in death by his parents, Grant U. Goolsby and Nettie J. Brogan; four sisters, Delma J. Hughes, Ruby L. Martin, Fannie Williams, and Joyce Truslow and one brother, Sidney M. Brogan.

James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was married to the love of his life, Nancy S. Goolsby, whom he shared 62 years of devotion.

James is survived by his children, Michael W Goolsby (Lisa) of Amherst, Wanda Luckado (Brian) of Lynchburg, and Gary Goolsby (Tonya) of Madison Heights; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He also cherished his little fur baby Abby.

James worked 24 years at lower basin Lynchburg Foundry and 10 years at Specialty Exterminating and James served six years in the United States Army Infantry.

He was a man of strong faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston with Rev. Mark Snowden and Pastor Jeff Worley officiating.

Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 16 of Lynchburg.

Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
