James Thomas "Jimmy" Lawhorne

James Thomas Lawhorne, 78 of Arrington VA passed away peacefully at UVA Medical Center on Thursday, August 25, 2022 with his loving family by his side.

Jimmy was born in Charlottesville, VA on January 13, 1944 to the late Preston & Ruby (Wright) Lawhorne.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brothers, Ronnie, Gene & Greg Lawhorne,

sister, Laverne Fitzgerald and half sisters, Margie, Hazel & Sadie Lawhorne. A special nephew, Curt Lawhorne, as well as an Uncle & Aunt, Oline "Owen" & Pauline Wright, who helped to raise him.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of nearly 51 years, Irene (Taylor) Lawhorne, whom he married on September 24, 1971. Together they have 4 children, Mike Lawhorne (Crystal), Cheryl Lawhorne (Tim), Kim Myrtle (Jeff) & Jenny Shaver (Henry); Fourteen grandchildren, Kyle (Kelsey), Kennedy (Ryan), Delaney (Isaac), Cierra, Kevin, James, Alexis, Mason, Blayne, Ashlyn, Ethan, Keith, Easton & Abel; Three great grandchildren, Tucker, Kaitlynn & Walker as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins & in-laws.

Jimmy served in the United States Army as a MP and in Vietnam. He was an electrician by

trade, working as an Industrial Mechanic for Frank Ix & Sons for 28 years, until an accident forced him into an early retirement.

Dad loved staying busy and was always looking for a yard to mow or something to fix. When he wasn't doing that, you could find him piddling in the yard with his dog, Rambo (Killer) and his chickens or on a vehicle with bluegrass playing on the radio. He fiercely loved his family and always took an interest in everything we did. Whether it was farming, music, racing, traveling or sports and all of Kyle's friends were his friends! He always took every opportunity to spend time with his grandbabies & looked forward to the "trouble" they could get into. Dad was always up for a road trip…especially if it involved food! He loved his Sunday morning breakfast at Ann's Family Restaurant (Truck Stop) with Jimmy, Debbie & Linda. Dad was a joyful man and would do almost anything to get a laugh, but his greatest love in life was our Mom. It was very rare to see one without the other.

Daddy, your absence is greater than we could ever have imagined!
