James Calvin Maxey, Sr.

 

James Calvin Maxey, Sr., 84, of Amherst died Friday, January 5, 2024 at his residence.

He was born on June 1, 1939 in Rustburg, a son of the late Robert C. Maxey and Annie Mae Litchford Maxey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by  two sons, Calvin Lee Maxey and James C. Maxey, Jr.; two sisters, Charlotte A. Seay and Virginia M. Maxey; four brothers, Otis J. Maxey, Charlton L. Maxey, Robert W. Maxey and David H. Maxey and a granddaughter, Amanda Maxey.

James was a Vietnam Army Veteran and steel fabricator with Lynchburg Steel with 36 years of service and a member of The Loyal Order of Moose Lodge#715 of Lynchburg.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Maxey; three daughters, Cathy A. Marsh and husband Edwin, Lynn E. Mays  and husband Kent, and Sharon D. Maxey; two sons,  Joseph Scott Maxey and Robert P. Escher, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in the old sanctuary of Clifford Baptist Church with Pastor Jeffrey Campbell officiating.

Interment will be private in the Bryant Family Cemetery at Tye River.

The family will receive friends at all times at the residence and following the service at Clifford Baptist Church.
