John Hopkins Stevens

John Hopkins “Jeff” Stevens, 95, of the Stevens Cove Community, Lovingston, Virginia died peacefully at the home he loved on Saturday, May 25, 2024 and was welcomed to his eternal rest by the Lord he served so faithfully.

Jeff was born on August 1, 1928 in Nelson County to the late Robert Hopkins “Hop” Stevens and Lelda May Giles Stevens.

Jeff was known far and wide, beloved by everyone he came across.  If there was a need, Jeff was there to lend a hand.   Never to be found without a smile on his face, he leaves his family and community a better place with cherished memories of time spent with him.

Jeff was retired from the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative in Lovingston, Virginia where he worked as a lineman and then as a supervisor before retiring with over 30 years of service.  He was a faithful, devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church, Lovingston, Virginia. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class.  He always took pride in the fact all of the men who served under him came back home safely.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 69 years, Addie Johnson Stevens; brothers James, Ivanhoe, Robert, Winfred and Samuel Stevens; brother-in-laws Warren, Robert and Harlow Johnson, Jr.; and sister-in-laws Ethel “Zula” and Mary “Pete” Fitzgerald.

He is survived by sister-in-law Alice Dolly (Joe St. Pierre) of Bear, Delaware and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
