Joy Alice Fitzgerald

Joy Alice Fitzgerald, 58, of Shipman, Va. went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday March 5, 2026, at her home after a courageous battle with Lung Cancer.

She was Born December 8, 1967 in Fairfax, Va. to the Late Winston Roosevelt Oliver and Joy Ann Oliver.

Joy loved her family. She loved being a grandma most of all. If you were around you were going to hear a story or two about her babies and she would probably show you some of the latest pictures she had of the girls. She loved her yearly Virginia Beach trips with her husband Ray to celebrate their anniversary. She enjoyed spending anytime she could with her children. Joy really just enjoyed the simpler things in life.

Joy is survived by her Loving husband, Ray Fitzgerald; her children James Vernon of Buckingham, Tiffany Proffitt (Justin) of Shipman, David Oliver (Brittany) of Christiansburg, and Daniel Oliver (Kaitlyn) of Faber and her granddaughters, Brinkley and Avery Oliver also of Faber; her mother, Joy Ann Oliver of Westerly, RI. and a brother, Vernon Oliver (Linda) also of Westerly, RI. along with a host of loving family and friends.

Joy was proceeded in death by her father the late Winston Roosevelt Oliver, an infant daughter, Ann Marie Vernon, brothers, Lawrence "Larry “Oliver and Timothy "Timmy" Oliver and her father-in-law, Jesse Terry.

Joy attended Living Word Christian Fellowship in Piney River, Va. Our family would like to thank all of the members of the church and Pastor Todd Peck for everything during Joys sickness.

The family would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and family and friends who supported Joy during her final days.

"Goodbyes are not forever, Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again.”

A private service will be held at a later date.
