Joyce Jean Martin Johnson

Joyce Jean Martin Johnson, 84, of Faber passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at her residence.

Joyce was born at home on Saunders Farm on June 4, 1938 to Emmett R. and Eliza White Martin (both deceased).  She had two siblings, sister, Katherine (deceased) and baby brother, David W. Martin (Theresa) of Faber.

She married her high school sweetheart, Julian E. Johnson, December 17, 1955 at the home of his parents, Julian D. “Pete” and Glenn Anne Tice Johnson (both deceased).  Julian unexpectedly died at the age of 37.  Together, they had four children:  Sharon Kaye Johnson (d. 1957), Julian Martin “Marty” Johnson (d. 1994), Andrew Leonard “Andy” Johnson (d. 2011), and Debra Johnson Darling of Lexington, VA.

In 1974, she married the second love of her life and dedicated family man, Charles B. “C.B.” Johnson, III with whom they had one child together, Benjamin Allen “Ben” Johnson (Shannon) of Faber and added his children, Monica L. Johnson (Ralph) of Palmyra, and Travis W. Johnson (Rosemary) of Scottsville, to create a wonderful blended family.

In addition to her parents, sister, sons, and daughter, Joyce is predeceased by niece, Sherri Lynn Clark Wyland Robertson, and nephew, Leslie “Les” Ponton.

Joyce lovingly babysat all of her grandchildren: Julian "Jaime" Johnson, Michael Johnson, Virginia “Ginny” Johnson, Megan Johnson, Brayden Johnson, Amanda Smith, Shawn Johnson, Margaret Ellen Parrish, and Tara Johnson—many of whom have added the blessing of great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild to our family and part of Joyce’s legacy.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at  Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Faber with Pastor Sandy Kelso and Pastor John Campbell officiating.

Interment will be held in Scottsville Cemetery.
