Larry Ray Jennings

On Friday, May 17, 2024 surrounded by his family that meant everything to him, Larry Ray Jennings, 68, went to the open arms of the Lord in peace and dignity.  To his family he was our protector and hero.  His physical struggles over the last few years never stopped his continual efforts to make each day the very best.  Larry’s love for his family will carry on in each of them in the memories that each of them hold in their hearts.

He was born on March 27, 1956 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Larry’s early childhood was spent near his maternal grandparents on the backs of Jug Branch in Amherst County.  There you would frequently find him at Grandma Lois’ table, in the yard playing or on the creek with Grandaddy Chester throwing tomatoes in the water as fast as his grandaddy could pick them.  Later they moved to the farm in Gidsville where Larry made friendships that would last a lifetime.  He graduated from Amherst County High School in 1974.  Larry’s careers spanned from working at Chapstick Inc, being a supervisor at the Lynchburg Foundry, and working for 20 years with Hall Well and Pump Company.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Bobby and Fay Jennings, maternal grandparents Chester and Lois Proffitt as well as his paternal grandparents Robert and Ola Jennings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Kimberly S. Jennings. Also surviving are daughter, Lindsay Phillips (Joe); sons, Brad Jennings (Beth), and Dustin Jennings (Hailey); Beloved grandchildren, Dylan, Mileena, Lily, and Magnolia; brother, Michael Jennings (Charlotte); sister, Carolyn Ashwell (Earl); mother and father in law, Linda and David Fisher; two special aunts, Jane Hughes and Bettie Sue Jennings and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Outside of his family Larry’s proudest moments were his relationship with the Lord, his 20 years of service as a firefighter at Monelison Volunteer Fire Department, and his passion for the Virginia Cavaliers.
