Leo Norman "Sonny" Kidd of Sharps, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on February 28, 1939, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents Frank A. Kidd and Frances L. Brooks Kidd and sons Norman Lee Kidd and Roger Griffith Kidd.
Sonny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was married to the love of his life, Charlotte A. Kidd, with whom he shared more than 60 years of companionship and devotion.
He is survived by his children, Steven A. Kidd (Belinda) of Alexandria, VA and Georgette "Gigi" I. Askaryar (Trevor) of Warsaw, VA, grandchildren, Kristina L. Kidd (Shonda), Bryton L. Just (Josh), Christopher D. Kidd, and Jake G. Kidd; and great-grandchildren, Dylan K. Kidd, Josiah A. Just, and Noah G. Just; and by siblings George T. Kidd, Hazel L. Walker, and Charles A. "Toby" Kidd, and many nieces and nephews.
Sonny worked for many years as a meat cutter, a profession in which he took great pride. Known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, he approached his work with dedication and honesty.
Outside of work, Sonny found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved hunting, fishing, riding his tractor and planting a vegetable garden, and blue grass and country music. Above all, he cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. A deeply giving and kind-hearted man, Sonny never met a stranger. Sonny will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at the Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, located at 828 Front Street, Lovingston, Virginia 22949 with Pastor John Campbell officiating.
Interment will follow in the Davis Cemetery in Shipman.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
