Leon Avery, Jr.

Leon Avery, Jr., of Fort Washington, MD, departed this earthly life on Monday, January 19, 2026.

He was born on May 27, 1944 in Widen, West Virginia, a son of the late Mr. Leon A. Avery, Sr. and Mrs. Mattie Lou Ella Brown Avery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ms. Patricia A. Conyers, paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Louise V. Fleming Avery; his daughter, Natasha M. Avery; and his son, Leon Jamaar Avery. He is also survived by his siblings Mrs. Carol Avery Nicholson and Mr. Dennis K. Avery. He leaves to cherish the memories a host of relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the Fleming Family Cemetery in Wingina.
