Martha Josephine Stewart Winston

Martha Josephine Stewart Winston, 82, of Afton, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 21, 2023 surrounded by her family.

She was born October 31, 1940 in Wintergreen, Virginia, the daughter of the late Reverend James Edward Stewart and Viola Turner Stewart Taylor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Stewart Kiser Turner and a brother James Junior Stewart.

Martha is survived by her husband, Jordan Winston; one daughter, Doretha Givens (Leslie) of Afton; one step-son, Everett Hopson of Waynesboro; three foster children, Mary Coles of Waynesboro, George Coles of Lynchburg, and Donna Fitch of Chesterfield;  one brother, John "Danny" Stewart of Faber; three sisters, Edna McLamore of El Paso, TX, Jerline Gray of Arrington, and Mary Ann Stewart of Charlottesville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Martha was a caregiver for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m.  on  Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Hebron Baptist Church , 66 Tanbark Drive, Afton, with Rev. Glenwood Morgan officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Eagle Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Hebron Baptist Church
