In Loving Memory of Nannie Mae Harris

With deep love and heartfelt gratitude for a life well lived in faithful service to Jehovah, we celebrate the life of a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and servant of God.

Born to Alfred Giles, Sr.(deceased) and Maggie Loving Giles (deceased), she grew to become a woman whose life was defined by her unwavering faith in Jehovah. From an early age, she developed a deep love for Jehovah’s Word and dedicated her life to sharing the Bible's message of hope with others. As a faithful pioneer, she spent countless years in the ministry, joyfully speaking to people about Jehovah and His promises for the future. She viewed her ministry not as an obligation, but as a privilege, and her greatest desire was to help others come to know and love Jehovah as she did.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Verna Harris, with whom she shared many cherished years.

While Jehovah was always her first love, her greatest earthly joy was her family. She was a devoted and loving mother to her three sons, James Giles (Katrina Meesook), Charles Giles (James Boix), and Robert Giles (Janet Turner-Giles). She adored each of them beyond measure, and they loved and cherished their mother deeply. Her love continued to grow through the generations as she welcomed her three grandchildren, Emanuel Turner (Amanda Turner), Chandler Giles, and Bryce Giles, and later her two great-grandchildren, Rylie Turner and Jayce Turner. Nothing brought a brighter smile to her face than spending time with her family, encouraging them, and celebrating their lives.

She was also blessed with a large and loving family, including her sisters Mary Martin, Viola Branch (Larry Branch – deceased), Annie Giles, Sallie Giles (deceased), and Lizzie Giles-Hill, and her brothers: Alfred Giles, Jr. (Daisy Giles) and James Leonard Giles (Barbara Goines), and her aunt, Fannie Loving Ross. She treasured the lifelong bond she shared with her siblings and extended family, holding them close to her heart throughout her life.

Her congregation became her second family. She faithfully worshipped with the Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for most of her life, where she built lifelong friendships that she treasured dearly. She never met a stranger. Her warm smile, kind spirit, genuine interest in others, and encouraging words made everyone feel welcome.

One of the things everyone admired about her was her adventurous spirit. Although she never obtained a physical driver's license, that never slowed her down. She seemed to always be “on the road again," finding her way wherever she wanted to go. She had an incredible sense of direction and could often tell others exactly how to get there. Her travels allowed her to experience many beautiful places and create lasting memories with those she loved.

Even during her illness, her faith never wavered. In her final days, rather than focusing on her own suffering, she continued to express gratitude to Jehovah for giving her the strength to endure. Her steadfast trust, peaceful spirit, and enduring hope in Jehovah's promises became a source of encouragement to all who knew her.

Her legacy is one of faith, kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to Jehovah. She leaves behind a family who will deeply miss her love, wisdom, laughter, and gentle encouragement, along with countless friends, brothers, and sisters in the congregation whose lives were touched by her example.

While our hearts grieve today, we take comfort in the hope found in Jehovah’s Word. We look forward to the fulfillment of Jehovah’s promise of the resurrection, when we will have the joy of welcoming her again in a world free from sickness, pain, and death. Until that beautiful day, her faithful example and loving spirit will remain forever in our hearts.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Lovingston Volunteer Fire Department with Elder Mike Bowles officiating.
