Rita Faye Hammer

Rita Faye Hammer, 66, of Nellysford passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Rivers Edge in Waynesboro.

She was born on November 23, 1957 a daughter of the late James Tucker Woodson and Bertha Elizabeth Hughes Woodson.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, David Hammer; her son, Carlton Patterson and two brothers, Mike Fitzgerald and Ricky Woodson.

Rita was a retired school bus driver for Fairfax County Schools.

She is survived by her son, James Showalter and Heather of Alexandria, Virginia; step-son, Kevin Hammer; sister, Brenda Gibson of Crozet; granddaughters, Destiny and Dakota; a special sister-in-law, Stephanie Fitzgerald as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Beech Grove Christian Church 1207 Beech Grove Road, Roseland, Virginia 22967 with Pastor Robert Mansfield officiating.

Family and friends are asked to bring a covered dish for a meal following the service.
