Silas Russell "Billy" Simpson, Sr.

Silas Russell “Billy” Simpson, Sr. of Faber, Virginia passed away peacefully after a brief illness Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia and departed for his heavenly walk with Jesus Christ.

Billy was born April 6, 1931 living for over 91 years.  He was born to the late Robert E. Simpson and Lettie M. Simpson in Faber, Va.  He is also predeceased by two children, Jerry Wayne Simpson and Barbara Sue Snead.

Billy was married to his wife, Thelma Frances Simpson for over 70 years. They were married on October 4, 1952.  There are two surviving children, Russ and Curtis and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one brother, Clinton Simpson of Charlottesville.

In 1956 Billy started a roadside fruit market which still is operated by his son known as The Apple Shed.  In 1966 he opened Billy’s Fruit Stand.  He and his hardworking wife defied the odds and operated 7 days a week for over 35 years.  They also started a property rental business which is still ongoing.

Billy and Frances loved to vacation at their home in Colonial Beach, VA.  They enjoyed fishing, looking at the water, working on the house and enjoyed ice cold Coors Light!  Then there were the rides on the golf cart with Chico (deceased) and now Katie.  Billy loved his dogs, feeding them better food than most folks would eat.

One fact remains, Billy Simpson never collected any dust under his feet.  He was always doing something.  That’s who he was, a doer.  Hardwork was his life.  He served as an example to his children and those around him.  Nelson County lost one of its finest.
