Tom Haney, 74, of Nelson County, Virginia passed away at home after a short illness, while he was holding hands with his wife Judy and his daughter Cynthia.  Tom accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was 15.  He loved Clifford Baptist Church and was a faithful prayer warrior.  Born in Quito, Ecuador to the late Albert Richard Haney and Irene Budlong Haney.  His parents moved to Maryland prior to starting school ,where he met his childhood sweetheart, Judy, in kindergarten. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Judith Smith Haney and daughter Cynthia Dianne Haney both of Nelson County.  Sister Cornelia Haney Parkes, nieces Alana and Alysia of Massachusetts. Sisters-in-law Dottie Troxler her husband Bill and their son Matt, Lisa Trainor her husband John and their children Amy and Tom.  As well as great-nephews and great-nieces.

Tom was an Army Veteran of two tours in Bien Hoa, Vietnam.  He received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service during his tours. Returning from the war he started a cabinet shop and printing business, Dovetail, with Bill Thom in Damascus, Maryland.  He then worked at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History becoming a master cabinetmaker.  During that time Tom and Judy renovated their house in Chevy Chase, Maryland using his woodworking skills.  In 1978 they moved to Nelson County, Virginia.  Tom designed, then built with Judy their current home located on the Tye River.  Creative since childhood with a phantasmagorical surrealistic style Tom turned to fine art full-time around 1988 .  His paintings expressed both his style and personality showing his love of the female form.  Tom preferred to carve wood using the grain patterns in flowing, curvilinear forms.
