Thomas Nelson Simpson, 64, of Nelson County, Virginia, passed away on April 13, 2026, and went to be with the Lord.
He was born on November 6, 1961, to the late Richard Hyden Simpson and Barbara Mawyer.
A proud native of Nelson County, Thomas graduated from Nelson County High School.
He went on to attend Job Corps before honorably serving his country in the United States Navy for four years. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service, and the love he shared with those around him.
Thomas is survived by his son, Thomas Nelson Simpson Jr. (Kellan), and his beloved grandchildren, Masie Dawn Simpson, McKinley Nicole Simpson, and Hunter Nelson Simpson, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his siblings: Ronnie Simpson (Juanita), Richard Simpson, Tina Clancy (Michael), Tonya Shelton (Chris), and Jasper Moyers. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including Christina Simpson, Brittany Wright, Bucky Simpson, Michael Clancy, Ian McNett, Zachery McNett, Heavyn Shelton, Heidi Shelton, Emily Johnson, Hannah Simpson, and Cole Simpson.
He is also lovingly remembered by his great-nieces and great-nephews: Kevin Micklem, Lorenzo Tabb, and Camden Tabb (children of Christina); Christopher Brown and Theodore Brown (children of Heavyn); Jaxson Gibson (child of Heidi); Ian McNett IV (child of Ian); Laylah Poindexter, Lynlee Poindexter, Kayleigh Poindexter, and Caden Poindexter (children of Brittany); and Kylee Johnson and Kayden Johnson (children of Emily).
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Leonard Simpson.
Thomas will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His kindness, strength, and devotion to family will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Davis Cemetery in Shipman with Mike Wooten officiating.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 19, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, 828 Front Street, Lovingston, Virginia 22949.
