Timothy "Timmy" Ray Oliver

Timothy "Timmy" Ray Oliver, 60, of Shipman passed away on September 6, 2025. Timmy had experienced several health issues in the last few years including a leg amputation. Most recently he had a short battle with cancer.

Born August 1, 1965 in Fairfax, Va. He was the third child of the late Winston Roosevelt Oliver and Joy Ann Oliver of Shipman.

Timmy spent his working years doing construction. He helped build the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville. He had to leave the career he loved after a back injury.

Timmy is survived by his daughter Rachel Oliver (Dion), 2 stepsons that he loved as his own James "Ricky" Mays (Annie) and Roger Mays. Grandchildren Miracle and Drake Winfield, James "Ray Ray" Mays and Sarah Mays. His mother Joy Ann Oliver who was his sole caregiver over the past several years. His brother Vernon Oliver (Linda) and Sister Joy Fitzgerald (Ray). 2 Nephews that he helped raise and loved as his own Daniel Oliver (Kaitlyn) and David Oliver (Brittany). He leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish his memory.

Timmy was preceded in death by his Father Winston Roosevelt Oliver and his brother who was also his best friend Lawrence "Larry" Edward Oliver.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to the Nelson County EMS, UVA Hospital and Hospice of the Piedmont for all of the care and support during Timmy’s Illness.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
