William Alden "Bill" Rodes

William Alden "Bill" Rodes, 60, of Afton passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Augusta Health.

Bill was born on December 1, 1965, to the late Edna Marguerite (Rita) Brent and the late Phillip Leslie Rodes. He was also preceded in death by Radford Brent, who came into his life when Bill was three years old and raised him as his own, serving as a constant and loving father figure throughout his childhood.

Bill is survived by his wife of 29 years Donna Rodes of Afton, his daughter, Mariah Rodes also of Afton, his son, Brandon McGann, daughter in-law Liz, and his grandchildren, Shade, Adalyn & Ridge McGann of Charlottesville. His sister, Pamela Brent (Cynthia) of Hampton, brother, Michael Rodes (Vicki) of Afton, brother, Wes Grant of North Carolina, brother in-law, Darrell Fitzgerald (Robin) of Roseland. A niece, several nephews and many lifelong friends. He also leaves behind his extended family Jimmy and Diane Carter, Rebecca Carter Fitzgerald, Scott, Cooper and Brett. And of course, his 4-legged friends, Dexter, Daisy, Pumpkin and Shadow.

Bill was a member of Beech Grove Christian Church. He was employed at Berry Global in Waynesboro for 17 years as a line lead.

Bill was deeply devoted to his family, his friends, and his career. He had a way of turning strangers into friends and making people feel welcome wherever he went. He loved staying connected to the people he cared about, whether through a long phone call, a funny message, a thoughtful gift, or simply checking in to see how someone was doing.

He was a deeply caring and generous man who took great joy in doing things for the people he loved and rarely needed to be asked twice when someone needed his help.

Bill enjoyed a good prank and loved making people laugh, but perhaps what brought him the most joy was seeing the reactions of those around him.

In his free time, he could often be found in his shop, woodworking and tinkering with his latest project, or in his garden tending to his vegetables. He took great pride in growing and canning, especially his famous salsa, pickles, beets, and other homemade favorites. He loved feeding people and was always ready to send someone home with a few jars; usually one for them and one for their Mama. A talented craftsman, Bill could build or fix nearly anything, leaving behind countless “Bill Rodes Originals” that will continue to remind his family and friends of him for years to come.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11:00 am at Beech Grove Christian Church in Roseland with burial following at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service.
